8 Days - La Palmita Natural Reserve

About this trip

The Llanos is a geographical region of northern South America divided between Colombia and Venezuela in the Orinoco River basin. The inhabitants of the region, the llaneros, are happy, hospitable people and excellent riders.

The reason for the existence of this grassy prairie is the extreme climate. Half of the year – from November until March – ther is hardly any rainfall. During the rest of the year, the whole area experiences flooding, caused by heavy thunderstorms. The true 2 endemics: Pale-headed Jacamar and White-bearded Flycatcher.

The La Palmita Nature Reserve is a reserve of civil society which is located in the Municipality of Trinidad, department of Casanare. It has a Research Center where investigations related to the flora and fauna of the region are carried out.

In the 650 hectares of the reserve have been registered more than 250 species of birds, many of interest for BIrdwatching.
