7 Days - Hato La Aurora Birding Trip

About this trip

The reason for the existence of this grassy prairie is the extreme climate. Half of the year – from November until March – ther is hardly any rainfall. During the rest of the year, the whole area experiences flooding, caused by heavy thunderstorms. The true 2 endemics: Pale-headed Jacamar and White-bearded Flycatcher.

The Hato La Aurora with 9,887 hectares, it is the third largest protected area of Colombia’s civil societ.  It contains 200 species of birds identified. Deer, pumas, foxes, canaguaros, picures, araguatos, cachicamos, giant güios, melero bears and anteaters, giant otters, babillas, chigüiros, which are counted by thousands and the majestic jaguar, among others, they make this their home. It is a true genetic backup of native species.
